Review! Loving His Forever by LeAnn Ashers

Loving His ForeverLoving His Forever by LeAnn Ashers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

****************** Gifted Copy **************************

After reading Protecting His Forever (Book 1, Forever Series) and having mixed feelings then starting Loving His Forever immediately after, I wasn’t sure whether I was going to like the story. However, I’m glad I gave the author a second chance.

Braelyn needed hope and safety and she needed it now. Finding her way to Sydney’s doorstep, Braelyn’s life might have just received the spark she’s been so desperately needing. Ethan, a cop with a heart of gold, encounters a broken woman on his sister’s porch and his world comes to a grinding halt. She’s beautiful, beautifully broken. Her eyes speaks the truth of what her life has been like and Ethan vows from that moment he would do anything and everything for Braelyn, one day at a time.

As a second installment, Protecting His Forever, showcases the growth of the author’s writing ability. Some of her characters have grown in depth and the plot lines are much clearer and stronger when it comes to Braelyn and Ethan’s love story. My heart went out to Braelyn in more than one place in the book. However, Braelyn’s amazing spirit to rise above her fear and help others...yeah her character got me in the feels and I couldn’t have been more proud of her. The men in this series are great. However, I would like to see more depth to the male characters in the series. They felt a little one dimensional at times and at other times the men needed more umph. You catch glimpses of more depth in Ethan’s character but it wasn’t as cohesive as it could be throughout the story.

All in all, this author is fulfilling the saying, “ try, try, try again” most brilliantly. Looking forward to reading more from this author. This is a 4 star read for me.

Review! Protecting His Forever by LeAnn Ashers

Protecting His ForeverProtecting His Forever by LeAnn Ashers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

***************** Gifted Copy ***************************

Protecting His Forever is the first book in the Forever Series and is Kane and Sydney’s tumultuous journey to love and happily ever after. This was my first read from this author.

Kane becomes Sydney’s protector in a horrible yet heroic way. The experience they undergo catapults Sydney and Kane into each other’s arms. Yet, if only love was easy. Nope, not for Sydney. Sydney’s past come calling and it’s not just one call and certainly nothing she ever expected. As Sydney deals with her past, Kane becomes her source of strength and undeniable love.

This story in its entirety is a good one. With a hot, alpha ex-marine male lead and a strong and resilient writer who rises above adversity, this book should have rocked. Unfortunately, I felt the story was rushed in several places and fell short in its potential. In 241 pages, the author packs so many heavy topics from attempted kidnapping/rape to child neglect and abuse to abandonment to human trafficking, I often found myself frustrated wanting more expansion. I recognize, though, the author seemingly might be setting the stage for the theme of the series. My other source of contention is that everything was too neatly tied at the end which caused me to lose a bit of my love for the story in the end.

Did the author pen a compelling storyline with tons of potential? Most definitely yes. Consequently for me, Protecting His Forever was a 3 star read.

Review!! Something I Need by Lena Lowe

Something I Need (xoxo Nashville, #1)Something I Need by Lena Lowe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is Lena Lowe's debut book and the first in the Nashville series.

Jonte Williamson comes to Nashville from Australia to chase her dream of becoming a country singer. Upon arrival she finds herself homeless and ends up in a bar. Its in this bar she meets Cash and his twin Dolly (yes u read that right....Cash and Dolly)

Cash Bellini owns the very bar Jonte finds herself in. At first Cash seems easy going but it soon becomes clear he has his own demons....Demons that make him hate country music and everything associated with it. Not only does Cash hate country he also hates the idea of love, of falling in love. So why cant he seem to take his eyes off Jonte? And why does he find himself wanting to help her and keep her safe? But the most important question of all....what the hell is with these feelings he gets everytime she is near him?

Not only are Jonte and Cash great characters but so are all the supporting ones aswell. Dean and Dolly are two of my favourite! What makes this story unique for me though is that it doesnt follow the typical pattern stories of this genre normally do. You know the one right? Boy meets girl, they fall in love, something comes along to ruin it, que the romantic gesture and declaration of love and boom all is right in the world again. While Cash and Jonte do get their HEA what sets this apart is Jonte makes him work for it....really work for it, and you as a reader are left asking if their actually going to get their HEA right down to the last second.

Brilliantly refreshing are two words i would use to describe this book! I cant wait to read more from this series.

B2B Kelly's Review of Something to Belive in by Ella Fox

Something to Believe In (Renegade Saints, #4)Something to Believe In by Ella Fox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A nice mix of sweet and hot, funny and moving

Tyson Allen is a member of the successful rock band Renagade Saint and a recovering drug addict still dealing with the issues that led him to drugs in the first place. What he doesn't know how to handle is the attraction he feel for the new assistant, Daisy Hammond, who has dealt with a few issues of her own.

I liked both Daisy and Tyson, even when Tyson was being a jerk towards Daisy. I especially liked that Daisy was only willing to put up Tyson's treatment up to a point and then she called him on it. I thought Tyson's character showed some nice growth over the course of the story and I enjoyed the interplay between both Daisy and Tyson and all the supporting characters.

The plot, though entertaining, was relatively straightforward and while it never really dragged, I didn't find it particularly riveting either. I did like the minor and slightly mystical element of Tyson's dreams; it was a nice touch that added emotional depth to the story.

Something to Believe In is the fourth book in the Renegade Saints series and I hadn't read the previous books first. While it works as a standalone, I suspect I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the series in order; in fact, I think it would have turned what was a 4 star book for me into a 4.5 or 5 star book. As it was, this was a nice mix of sweet and hot, funny and moving, and I'd like to go read those earlier books to put this one in perspective.

B2B Kelly's Review of Challenged by Ryan Michele

Challenged (Vipers Creed MC, #1)Challenged by Ryan Michele
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fast entertaining read

Trix Lamasters is forced to seek help from the last man on earth she'd choose to turn to, the guy who broke her heart in high school and now is president of the Vipers Creed MC, Cade "Spook" Baker. It been fifteen years, but Cade believes that the woman he used to know as Trixie coming to him for help is his second chance to make her his--and this time not even Trix herself is going to stop him.

Wow, from the first page to the last, this story had me gasping and pretty much completely clueless. And then one of the characters gets in the last words (literally, the very last three sentences) and I'm pretty sure some of the stuff that happened that I thought I understood, I didn't really understand at all. So, yeah, Note that this is not a cliffhanger, but you are left with questions for the next book.

As for characters, Trix is intelligent and feisty, Cade is alpha male through and through, and the chemistry between the two of them is off the charts. In fact, it was almost too hot, as I felt they got together awfully fast given their previous history. Add in some intriguing secondary characters (though I would have liked a little more depth), and you've got a fast entertaining read with a nice set-up for the rest of the series. 4 stars

This story is about the forbidden love between a vampire David and a human Melissa. It all starts when Melissa goes out with her best friend to a club. Little did she know she would meet her soulmate that night. David thinks he it is simply lust and that one night will quench his thirst. He is forced to step in when he realizes someone has drugged her. They have to confront David's dad and his laws in order to be together. I loved this story. It had action, suspense and steamy scenes. I would definitely like to read more of this author's stories.

Review! Grievous by Nancy Haviland

Grievous (Wanted Men, #5)Grievous by Nancy Haviland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So when you find yourself finishing a book at 4:30am and you can’t fall asleep til 5...then wake up and still have the reaction of Holy Sh**, you can only describe the book as a must read. Grievous is the 5th installation in the Wanted Men series and I can honestly tell you it truly is the best she’s written in this series.

Grievous starts with an overlapping of the final chapters of Ultimate Vengeance, the death of a beloved brother. Lucien Darius Fane is grieving, soul wrenching grieving. All he sees in his mind’s eye is red: blood being spilt and covering everything. Vengeance will be his sweet deliverance. As Lucien spirals to a place where his demons live, Yasmeen is the only thing that tethers him to reality and just barely. Her beauty astounds him, her intelligence even more so. He needs her for one thing only and he will not be denied.

This book has so much within its pages that captured my imagination and my heart. From the commanding, domineering and undeniable personality of Lucien to subjects of betrayal, abuse and mental break down, at the end of the book you are left nothing short of this book’s title, grievous. The love story that brews between Lucien and Yasmeen is not the typical boy meets girl and they fall in love. What started as pure lust on Lucien’s behalf, took on a life it’s own that grew into something that he just refused himself to see and accept. Not so for Yasmeen. As their love story starts coiling tightly, when you come to the end of the book you will be like me not believing the way it ended and that it ended. Yes, mega cliffy! I am currently waiting with baited breath to know what happens next cause I have a feeling it’s going to be awesome and can’t wait. I completely hold up my hands too and confess I have read the end of this book three times! Each time I hope I am mistaken but I’m not!

With the use of dual POV, palpable steamy scenes and thrilling action, Grievous takes on the mafia genre and makes it its own. This was a definite 5 star read for me and I assure you it will be the same for you.

Review! Fate's Love (Fate's Love #1) by L.A. Cotton

Fate's Love (Fate's Love #1)Fate's Love by L.A. Cotton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars Fates Love by LA Cotton

Wow!!! Just wow!! I couldn't put this book down and now it's 5 am and I'm writing a review for it. This is the second book I've read by this author and I forgot how much I enjoyed her writing! I feel like I'm in a book coma...that and the sun will be up soon! Ha!

So Livy & Ethan. Fate brings them together so many times, but Livy can't seem to keep from running. She focuses on school and wants nothing to do with love. Ethan stirs something in her that scares her and her reaction to being scared is to run. As the story goes on I wanted to smack Livy for not snatching up Ethan. It's obvious that he wants her and that they have this special connection, but it takes a tragedy for her to realize what he's always known.

I loved their story, and I found myself in tears a few times. The emotions I felt from this book had me up an down...ugghh the feels were awesome! I love the little quotes thrown into the story. "Life would not be worth living without love." Gran's a smart lady! I'm looking forward to digging into the rest of the series. I loved Ethan and Livy, and the supporting characters were equallt intriguing! I have to say, I'm a huge fan of this author & can't wait to read more from her.

Review! Cement Heart by Beth Ehemann

Cement Heart (Viper's Heart, #1)Cement Heart by Beth Ehemann
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story was gut wrenching! I must be a masochist because I loved every minute of it. I loved how we saw viper's character grow. He went through so many emotions but finally saw the light. His grandma was perfect! She walked with him through his inner turmoil but pushed him every step of the way. I don't like to give spoilers so I will only say it's a tragically beautiful love story.

Review Lexi Blakes Ruthless

Ruthless (Lawless, #1)Ruthless by Lexi Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A perfect blend of heat, suspense and humor

Riley Lawless and his siblings end up in foster care after his father's partners kill both his father and mother and set it up to look like a murder-suicide. It fact, the whole family was supposed to die that night, but twenty years later, Riley and his brothers and sister are ready to take the next steps in their plan to get justice and revenge. Ellie Stratton, daughter of of one of the people who committed the crime is the current focus of that plan, but Ellie has plans and secrets of her own. This is the first book in a new series which is a bit of a spin-off of the Masters and Mercenaries series (where Riley's sister, Mia and her husband, Case have their own story), but it's not necessary to read Masters and Mercenaries first.

I love stories about troubled and/or damaged characters finding love, so I really enjoyed the story of these two damaged characters coming together (Riley and both of his brothers were left damaged by their parents' murders and the events that followed, while Ellie was left a different kind of damage after her mother dies and she's raised by a cold and critical father). I really liked the character growth Riley showed over the course of the story and Ellie was intelligent and caring, and there was plenty of chemistry between the two.

With complex and interesting characters, a plot full of twists and turns that kept me engaged, as well as great pacing, this story was a perfect blend of heat, suspense and humor. No cliffhanger, but not all the questions were answered, and I'm definitely looking forward to getting those answers with Bran and Drew's stories. 5 stars

I Speak...... love by Annalisa Nicole

I Speak...Love (A Different Road, #3)I Speak...Love by Annalisa Nicole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 stars worth of great characters, emotion-charged storyline and just generally excellent writing

Stephen Mason has been carrying around a load of guilt and secrets since his parents were killed in a car accident seventeen years ago that left his younger brother blind and his little sister with severe depression. Maddie Malone has her own issues after being abandoned as an infant and shuttled from foster home to foster home throughout her entire childhood. Where Stephen believes that he'll end up hurting anyone he allows to become close to him, Maddie's history has taught her that she'll lose anything she comes to care about. While I Speak...Love could technically be read as a standalone, as the third book in the A Different Road series, there is a lot of carryover from the previous books. This is not only Stephen and Maddie's story, but also a wrap up for the storylines for the other couples in the series.

I ADORED I Hear...Love and liked I See...Love almost as much, so I was really looking forward to Stephen and Maddie's story, and this book has the great characters, emotion-charged storyline and just generally excellent writing that I've come to expect from this author. However, it couldn't quite match up to those first two stories for me--I didn't connect to the characters as well for one, and I found the disconnect between the perception of Stephen's character in the first two books to how he actually is in this book a little disconcerting.

This book is still very good, though, plus I loved wrap up for the other couples. I look forward to more books by this author. 4 to 4.5 stars

Refrain by Kennedy Ryan

Refrain (Soul, #3)Refrain by Kennedy Ryan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A short, sweet read and a lovely follow-up

This is the third book in the Soul Series and is a continuation of Rhys and Kai's story, not a standalone. Rhyson Gray and Kai Pearson are still dealing with some of the aftermath of the events of the first two books as Kai adjusts to her rising fame, and Rhys struggles as his need to protect Kai conflicts with what's best for their careers.

I loved Kai and Rhys in the first two books of this series so getting to see more of them was huge bonus. All the elements that I enjoyed in those first two books are here: the great characters, the storylines about trust, love, forgiveness and faith as well as the price of genius and fame, along with lots of heat and funny moments mixed in with a little angst. A short, sweet read and a lovely follow-up; I'm looking forward to the next book in the series featuring Grip and Bristol. 5 stars

B2B Kelly's Review of Hazel Jacobs Black Lilith

Black LilithBlack Lilith by Hazel Jacobs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I hit the jackpot with this new author

Mikayla Strong, a recent graduate with an events management degree, ends up working as a PA for Black Lilith, an up and coming band with a strict "no dating the PA" rule. Which is fine by Mikayla, because no matter how attractive she finds singer Logan Todd, this is only a temporary gig until she gets her life back on track....

I loved Mikayla; she's smart, and spirited and not afraid to stand up for what she wants and needs and I loved the character growth she showed over the course of the story. I also loved watching her relationship with Logan and the other band members develop over time, and the interplay between the band members themselves, who are a family rather than just co-workers. Logan is definitely drool-worthy as the guy willing to do whatever he has to in order to take care of his family.

The characters and the humor sucked me in and the plot kept me engaged--almost too engaged as I made the mistake of starting this shortly before bedtime and ended up staying up to finish it instead of sleeping. Starting a book from a brand new author is a little like Forrest and his box of chocolates: you're never sure what you're going to get, but I felt like I hit the jackpot here, so I was very happy to learn the next books in the series are already in development. I'm very much looking forward to stories about the remaining band members and more books from this author. 5 stars
