Before I was able to sit and write this, I had to answer the burning question of where to start. White is the final installment in the Black series. As a final book in the series, this book does not outshine its predecessors in the series. No, this book completes the series in an achingly good and beautifully painful ending. Simply brilliant.
White is Jake and Addy's tumultuous journey to each other. Jake on a mission of self destruction is suffocating from pain that drowns him day in and day out. His pain is not black like most would think. No, it is a searing pain that often Jake craves beyond reason or sanity and he can only feel as white. Addy, living a hell of her own, is curious and enraged with Jake, as she witnesses Jake's demise into the bottle, day in and day out. One day, chess pieces are moved and their worlds collide.
Not going to lie, this book is gritty and rough and engages your mind. You can't help but ask these questions of yourself: what would you do? Would/ Could you survive? This author pulls and wrings your emotions with the complexity of her characters' conscience and soul. The plot has several twists and one in particular I did not agree with in the least. The brilliance of her settings only adds to the plot of the story. And, magic happens when we see all Black and Red and other phenomenal characters from the previous books.
I find I must stop here. This book is definitely more than a good read, it is a must read. Five achingly good stars for White. I leave you with just a taste:
